My nic doesn't get detected
Ok. I just installed a "basic debian system". Now I tried to continue the install but I have a problem. No eth0. I tried a lspci and i saw it right away, VIA RHINE fast ethernet, bla bla. I tried a command in /etc/rc.d/rc.S.. it was something like networking restart, and again, no eth0. Please help, I am new to debian. I haven't had such problems with any other linux.

Have you setup the network address using either a static or dhcp addressing? The configuration is in /etc/network/interfaces. To start, stop or restart networking you use /etc/init.d/networking [stop, start, restart].
If you are not sure what is going on check /var/log/dmesg or syslog. |
I did it
I did it. I was booting using lilo. Don't ask me why or how. I used grub and boom. It worked. eth0 was there :D Thanks! :)
