thats almost always a problem with hard drive, cable, and motherboard and
cdrom combos. sometimes you can get it to work by using a slower dma
speed on the drives, sometimes not.
its not about hard drive , cable etc...its all because of Nforce2 chipset, and Ide control....
but with only one hard drive its good..
but thats not good for me

i've seen loads of hard drive combinations that don't work right.
on my last computer, when i hooked up a second hard drive as hdb,
my computer would start locking up every 20 minutes to an hour, unless
i slowed down the hard drives dma speed from 4 to 3.
i've seen that behavior a lot. having the extra drive on the cable makes
noise more of a problem.

I have the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe mobo (nforce2 chipset) with a Geforce 5600 and the following:
Western Digital 80GB (WinXP Pro, Mandrake 9.1 & Slackware)
Western Digital 80GB (Fedora Core 1, Debian)
AMD Athlon 2600 XP+
LiteOn CDRW 52x32x52
Generic Floppy drive
Samsung 171N LCD monitor
Logitech cordless optical mouse/keyboard
I have no problems with keeping my system up for days at a time regardless of what distro I'm using at the time. It might be a process you have running that is incompatible with your hardware that may because your freeze ups. Another thing you might want to check is to see if you have SATA turned on in the bios because if you aren't using it, it may cause strange behavior when your system accesses the hard drives.
