Mumble 1.2 on Debian 5.0 impossible?

Its not in the repo's. Its not in anything online that actually works. If i download the pack i either have the older versions of required packages or I dont have them all together. Now i cant get on any of the servers I did before because they upgraded, and I cant. Suggestions?

AlucardZero 02-06-2010 07:23 PM

1.2 is in squeeze, but you can't get the build dependencies in lenny (apt-get build-dep complains about quilt (though the lenny-backports version is good), then about libboost-dev, and at this point I determined it to be too much effort).

Try compiling and installing from source? Or upgrade to Squeeze.

phantom_cyph 02-06-2010 07:31 PM

Hmm ok. There a way I can replace the sources to what Squeeze has..then just do a system-wide upgrade via Synaptic?

AlucardZero 02-06-2010 07:50 PM

yes, replace lenny with squeeze. apt-get update, upgrade apt, dpkg, aptitude. full-upgrade (or, safe-upgrade THEN full-upgrade).

Always have a backup, squeeze is still Testing and the release notes aren't even written yet, etc.

phantom_cyph 02-06-2010 07:59 PM

How stupid is this...full system upgrade to a potentially hazardous version for one damn program. Ugh.

AlucardZero 02-06-2010 08:08 PM

If this is a desktop system, I'd just run Testing eternally. You don't get the outdatedness of Stable, you are shielded from the worst bugs in Unstable, and you get new versions, not immediately, but in a timely manner.

If it's a server and you want the guaranteed stability, I don't know what to say.

phantom_cyph 02-06-2010 08:23 PM

So hmm...Testing = Squeeze right? I need to see if anyone has the sources.list on the sticky for that. Unless im wrong?

AlucardZero 02-06-2010 09:01 PM

yes, currently, testing is squeeze.

just replace all mentions of "stable" or "lenny" in your sources.list with "squeeze" .. you don't need to copy anyone else's

phantom_cyph 02-06-2010 10:05 PM

The download failed...couldnt retrieve some packages for some unknown reason. Any ideas?

List looks like this now:

Quote:

deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main
deb-src http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main

deb http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main

deb http://volatile.debian.org/debian-volatile squeeze/volatile main
deb-src http://volatile.debian.org/debian-volatile squeeze/volatile main

Hard to know since you didn't post the error message, but I'm guessing you should remove the updates and/or volatile lines.

Yes,Volatile is only for the Stable and Oldstable branches:

The entry for security looks ok.
