mouse does not show "X"

Hi linux user,
I have just installed Debian 3.
after I have configured my keyboard, mouse then at the console, I type 'startx' to bring up the X server.

It appear grey backgroud as per normally. But the mouse cursor did not appear an 'X'. it appear a rectangle patch.

When I type CTRL+ALT+ backspece. It return to the comand prompt. The following message appear.

(WW) TRIDENT(0): Failed to set up write-combning range ()xe580000x, )x7d 0000)
(EE) Xf86openserial: cannot open device /dev/input/mice
no such device
(EE) Generaic Mouse:cannot open input device
(EE)Preinit failed for input device "Generic mouse" Could not init font path element unix/:7100, removing frm list !
xinit:connection to xserver lost

During the setup I have selected /dev/psaux (I have a 3 buttons ps/2 mouse).

At /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
--------------------------------
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Generic Mouse"
Driver "mouse"
Option "SendCoreEvents"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection

How can I fix the mouse cursor to make it appear an "X" instead of the rectangular patch. How can I re-run the setup to configure my mouse ?

Appreciate your help.

first thing: do you have a wheel mouse or a three button mouse?

for Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2" i believe that is for Wheel mouses only (someone correct me if i am wrong)
if you already have three buttons then you don't need to Emulate3Buttons. make this option false

you can reconfigure your x system by using this command
Code:
xf86config
make sure that you have all of the specs on your mouse, keyboard, vid card, monitor.
hope this helps

You can edit /etc/XF86Config-4 and change the line;
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" or you can re-do your X setting by doing dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86.
