MOTD reverting to default install upon reboot

Greetings:

I installed Debian Etch a little over a month ago to serve as my web server and I decided to reboot today to assure that some settings took.

I had set the MOTD to my own custom message and after the reboot, all the settings are intact that I have made, but the MOTD reverted back to the default one that Debian has on install. I reset it to my own custom MOTD and then rebooted and it is back to the original again.

How do you keep this from happening?

Thanks,

Mike

I believe that you need to comment out or change a section of /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh.

Specifically, the following section.

Code:
# Update motd
uname -snrvm > /var/run/motd
[ -f /etc/motd.tail ] && cat /etc/motd.tail >> /var/run/motd
