Modules in debian

How do you fix how debian default installation probes modules?
Usually it modprobes the same module 5 times, giving you a "already installed" message. It also tries to modprobe modules that do not exist. Where are all the module configs located in Debian?

I think you're looking for modconf.

Thanks, but I don't think modconf can solve this problem.

It seems like some modules are listed several times, as the kernel tries to install the modules 4-5 times.. giving you a "modulename: already installed" message. This is a debian stock kernel.
