modprobe strange behavior? plz help

hello everybody.
I am having a weird problem. while working on my linux box
suddenly the processor is up to 100% usage.when I check
the running processes I find that modprobe is using 90 % of
my CPU. this thing happens periodically almost every 1 hr or so
and lasts for around 30 secs.
I am running Debian sarge with kernel 2.6.3-1-686 and KDE 3.2.

Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanx in advance.
