Missing tools to install proprietary AMD Drivers with Jessie (testing)

Hello everyone.

Today I wanted to ask for help since I've been struggling with the AMD proprietary drivers installation without no clue of what the problem is, it just won't install.

The error message I get is:
Code:
Check if system has the tools required for installation.
fglrx installation requires that the system have kernel headers for 3.7 release. /lib/modules/3.14-1-amd64/build/include/generated/uapi/linux/version.h cannot be found on this system.
One or more tools required for installation cannot be found on the system. Install the required tools before installing the fglrx driver.
Optionally, run the installer with --force option to install without the tools.
Forcing install will disable AMD hardware acceleration and may make your system unstable. Not recommended.
I was asked to install the linux generic header in the first place and I thought that hopefully the linux-header-amd64 package would install it alongside. Now I am not so sure of what the problem is.

I am totally novice in what installing AMD proprietary drivers concerns, so I would appreciate that you people could point me in the right direction.

In advance, thank you.
Fernando.

Edit: I just realized that I didn't provide information of what I am using to install the drivers. I have downloaded the .run package from the AMD website. Sorry for my mistake.

Did you try simply installing the fglrx-driver package in the Debian repo?
Code:
apt-get install fglrx-driver

Hi, I had already tried that command, this is the output:

"Package fglrx-driver is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'fglrx-driver' has no installation candidate
"

It looks like there is a repository that has that package available, I already have the non-free repository enabled if that's the one that is necessary. Otherwise, I would appreciate a little extra push to enable the one that can provide me the package to install.

Thank you for your answer.

Edit: I have tried to install the fglrx-driver package enabling all of the sources from Wheezy and Jessie but I have the same output I mention before in this reply. Any other ideas?

Hi,

it's in non-free, but seems not to be in jessie. See:

https://packages.debian.org/search?k...s=fglrx-driver

xorg-video-abi-8 but its not installable or
xorg-video-abi-6.0 but its not installable
Recommends: fglrx-modules-dkms (= 1:14.4.2-1) but it won't be installed or
fglrx-kernel-14.4.2
Recommends: libgl1-fglrx-glx (= 1:14.4.2-1) but it won't be installed
Recommends libgl1-fglrx-glx-i386 but it won't be installed
Recommends fglrx-atieventsd but it won't be installed
E: Problems couldn't be solved, you have retained broken packages.

I hope you folks can understand my translation of the texts that is in english, I speak spanish and I have the system in that language.

Thanks again.

Hi,

instead of translating it yourself, for the purpose of these posts, set the LANG variable to C in the terminal. Eg
Code:
export LANG=C
apt-get install whatever
This will make sure that there is no missunderstanding regarding the exact error messages that are being reported.
