migrating lots of users

I migrated a big list of users from a BSD system and people can login with no apparent problems... but strangely I can only send mail to my user account (which was created by the system).

Is there something that needs to be done after editing the passwd and shadow files to make sure users are properly installed on the system?

Nevermind, this isn't a Debian issue. I pinned this down to some kind of issue with user configuration files. There is some configuration copied from the old server in the user's home directory that is messing with the mail (verified it by renaming a home directory which lets the mail through).
