migrate debian into other hardware ?

hi

howto migrate debian into other hardware ?
I've tried to create an image using symantec ghost and setup on the other hardware, but I'm getting a lot of hardware problems.

other solution shoud be using debian Live-CD:

http://live.debian.net/cdimage/etch-...t/i386/iso-cd/

but don't know howto chroot an existing installation into the new system.

Your best option is: don't... Just install Debian from the netinstall-cd directly on this hardware. That way the installer correctly identifies the hardware and configures it accordingly.

You can simply copy all files - so, pretending everything is on a single partition:

prepare the blank drive (sdb?)
mkdir /mnt/target
mkdir /mnt/orig
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/orig (assuming this is your installed one)
mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/target (the copy to make)
cp -a /mnt/orig/* /mnt/target/.

Then make up a config file to install the bootloader to 'sdb'; lilo and grub work slightly differently - for example, when installing GRUB I usually unmount the device with the /boot directory first while with lilo the device with /boot must be mounted.

Of course if your hardware is all different, you will still need to do some setup when you boot the other machines.
