could be a kernel limitation, (just a guess)

You need to recompile the kernel and specify a 4GB RAM limit to make use of 2GB of RAM.

I recompiled and did this but I still have not firgured out how to get my full 2 gigs working. is there any suggestions?

If I remember right, during xconfig, choose "Processor type and features". There should be a setting there for maximum memory or something like that.

Well lets say that I screwed up my box by installing a newer version of glibc-devel than the actual glibc I had installed. So since I was re-installing the system... I went ahead and upgraded to kernel 2.6.14.4. This time I got the 2 gigs to be seen... wee... but now I can not get my ac97 sound card to work. Well I guess it was a trade off.
