Members running Squeeze or Sid; questions...

OK
I got Squeeze installed to a partition and it runs pretty good

cept for one thing

live-helper/live-magic is broken in squeeze?
if I do

Code:

lh_config
in term I get not found, etc

live-magic also conks out saying lh_config no such file, etc

So, my questions are

1) anyone running squeeze and use live-magic,etc is it broken?

2) thinking about upgrading to Sid
anyone run Sid here and what advice?

thanks

have you tried without the _ ; say like this
lh config -d lenny -p standard-x11
^ ^
on sid i get an error message bout lh_config being deprecated, and that i got to use it without the _
otoh: i only get the message, it did work. (but iirc in lenny its the same now...)

as said in the other thread: live-helper makes me enough headaches in lenny (in sid it works, or it works not, but often it works).

perhaps try just smashing in live-helper from sid, but keep the system squeeze?:
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=15612
(not sure if using the lenny-version on squeeze will work, there has something happened with squashfs, if i am right). you might try that first, if that doesnt work use the sid-version, and if that doesnt work give up :)

Live-helper is currently at the same version in Testing and Unstable:

Code:

ade@Pc1:~$ apt-cache policy live-helper
live-helper:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 2.0~a3-1
  Version table:
    2.0~a3-1 0
        990 http://ftp.us.debian.org testing/main Packages
        500 http://ftp.us.debian.org unstable/main Packages

I would also recommend the guide j1alu is suggesting, its how i learned to use Testing/Unstable mixed.:study:

hey thanks guys Ill try that

you know I made a sid livecd lh_build to day!

first
I just did

Code:

lh_config -d lenny -p minimal -a i386
go look in /usr/share/live-helper/lists
for examples

anyway, so after it made the iso etc i deleted the iso and the raw image
leaving the chroot filesystem

I then grabbed a squeeze sources.list from here
http://debgen.simplylinux.ch/

I then chrooted in and did aptitude -f safe-upgrade
which upgraded to kernel 2.6.30-2-686 squeeze

I then had to mksquashfs all that and boot a usb from the new 30 kernel
while running live I chrooted back in to the build
and now running 30 kernel I did full upgrade to squeeze and purged out old lenny stuff

I then mksquashfsd all thata, deleted the other stuff off usb and put the new one on usb

I then again went and got a sid sourceslist
put that in there and repeated the process agai and again tll I got to sid full:)

it runs good but wont run persistent
which defeats the purpose for me.....

I did get a squeeze remastersys build to boot persistent

Good!!!

trooper: thanks for checking the versions, i should have done it but am more of the try&error ones.

linus72, just chatting:
The rest of what you did is a bit beyond me.
would the easy version of it be: you build lenny, chroot and upgraded, and rebuild the iso? if so: no problems with squashfs? yes?

and the option "-a i386 " did a build without 486, yes?

persistent, well, erghh.. i asked you once about it, but its not my thing...yet.

linus72 01-03-2010 06:05 AM

Hey you want me to upload the mini sid I made?
its like 300MB and you can use the toram=filesystem.squashfs as its small

well, it'll be easier to build now as before i built it up from lenny to sid
now that you helped me with lh config in squeeze I can first make a squeeze one

no, the option -a i386 still makes a image with both kernels
486 & 686; figure you must be running from 686 to purge 486,etc?

i'll be back

linus72 01-03-2010 06:08 AM

if you want j1alu
I'll upload lenny/squeeze/sid mini without 486,just 686 and then you can do whatever?

j1alu 01-03-2010 06:24 AM

lol. don`t you ever sleep?

nah, you don`t need to upload it. thing is like this: always, always, always it builds that 486, and i don`t ever need it. it just bugs me. thats all, not that i desperately would need it.

i got enough to do checking your last e17-version (and, of course, some other things too, mini-networking is killing me.lol.).

but: thanks a lot. i really appreciate.

and finally: a good thing what you`re doing there

btw:
(hint: there are a few pre-build ubuntu-based-e17`s out the, but not much debian based ones. if you ask me its a thing which really is missing. atm there is another project bout that...)
you got the hint?

linus72 01-03-2010 06:34 AM

you saying I should make a kick ass e17 lenny build?
whats atm?
LOL

you know I never saw before fvwm-crystal/afterstep/e17
all three very nice desktops!

all 3 have some really nice stuff:)

so, you say a Debian Live E17 edition or a Remastersys E17 edition?

linus72 01-03-2010 06:46 AM

here you can see my PC in its death throes as its little 1.8ghz brain is struggling along while making
a Debian Live squeeze cut and its also making my custom cut too
2 for 1!
the little term is getting my debian live
the bigger term is gonna be making the custom iso
the script at bottom kinda is a template
to the left you see the Lab
look at all those partitions too

the desktop is fvwm-crystal
