MATROX G400 and XFree86 4.1.0.1
Hello.
I installed Debian Woody and have a Matrox Video Card G400. The XFree86 version is 4.1.0.1. I tried to configure it in many ways, including running xf86config and using dpkg-recofigure xserver-xfree86. Both ways didnīt work, I cannot start the X-Server. I receive some errors: "FAiled to load module mga_hal" How can I load this module? Where can I find it? There is a message into the log files telling that "This is a pre- release version of XFree86, and is not supported in any way". I used the version included into the stable Woody CD distribution. I have not Internet connection to this PC, does any update exists which I can install from CD or Floppy? Enrique |

Try hypnos advice first, otherwise, there is some general info here.

Hello
I installed mga_hal drivers for the MATROX Card. To do this first I had to install the XFree86 4.3.0 release, which I did. Now the system reports a Mouse Error. I am using a PS/2 Mouse (DELL Intellimouse 1.2A PS/2 Compatible). I tried several configurations by selecting "PS/2" mouse, "Auto" and "Microsoft", but none of the options worked. On kernel 2.4.x:
#dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 on the mouse section: first screen, choose /dev/psaux from the list second screen choose ImPS/2 for the middle scroll button say yes to 'emulate 3 buttons' in the nex screen |
