Question Making a portable Debian USB hard disk installation.

I loaded debian 5.0.4 on USB HDD(60GB) in my laptop using virtual box.

It is booting well via the GRUB2 in my laptop.

But when i plug it into other computers, the USB HDD boots through GRUB2
but haults during the boot process with the error:

/bin/sh/: cant access tty; job control turned off

My questions:
1. How can i solve this problem?
2. Can Debian Lenny be installed in a USB HDD and used as a portable Linux?
(I have been successful in installing Ubuntu & Mint in the same manner!!)

virtual box is a pc hardware emulator. If you have debian booting in virtual box, then virtual box must be running on a base operating system of it's own. If you want to be able to boot on 'any' pc, you'll have to install directly to the hard drive and not on top of virtual box.
