making a .deb from source files


hey all.
is there a tool to make .deb files from a source tree? for instance, if i download the source tarball, is there some way to convert it into a debian package?
tia.

Their are tools to create .deb files.

The best place to start is Debian New Maintainers' Guide although not all the info is applicable to what you want it lists the tools and how to use them.
