make apt believe there are new packages (apt-cacher-ng as a proxy)

Hi folks,

I'm evaluating different solutions for auto update (notifications) for our debian (wheezy) servers. Now to see how the different approaches handle actuall updates I would like to make apt believe that there are new packages and not wait for some real updates.

Right now in my test setup I have an kvm host which has apt-cacher-ng installed. The guest all are configured to use it with
Code:
root@ns1:/etc/apt/apt.conf.d# cat /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/02proxy
Acquire::http { Proxy "http://apt-proxy.localdomain:3142"; };
I already altered the Packages.bz2 file within the cache directory of apt-cacher-ng but it seems to download a new one. So if anyone has any idea go ahead and please tell me.

The easiest solution would be to test with a VM that has a pristine version of Debian 7.0 (the latest is 7.1) in a VM. Make a snapshot after the installation so that you can revert to it, then test your different approaches with upgrading to 7.1.

Yep that will do. Guess I'm always overcomplicating things. Thanks TobiSGD.
