You can build deb files with the ati installer. I am currently using 8.21.7. After installing fglrx-kernel-src there is one patch that has to be applied before the kernel driver is built and installed. You can find links to the patch in the bug report.

Can you give a link here, dracae?

kde 3.5 upgrade
hi all
Ran apt-get update and it displayed zero:confused: I only installed 'etch' a couple of days ago; and i'm having trouble with KDE panel. The panel won't pop-out. Saw your posts and though i'd try to update to kde 3.5 with no success:( |
On the ATI issue:
Just download the latest installer from www.ati.com and run it. You can either create a distro-specific package or install it directly. I installed it directly and on a reboot and a few tweaks with xorg.conf file to get back my resolution the 3d acceleration now works. Output of glxinfo Quote:

Hmmm! Wonder if that would work on an AMD64? ... If I try it, is there any precaution I need to take other than backing up my xorg.cong file?

Hello Again
I solved my problem:) Reinstalled 'Etch' I chose to install from 'gatech'; and when all was finished KDE 3.5 had been installed. Quite often it takes a little logical thinking.:study: Thanks for your input.:) |

You don't need the proprietary driver from ati for everyday use. In fact currently I've had to switch back to the OSS radeon driver because of a few problems with the new driver.
Regards. |
Ok, thanks for this detail. I think I will keep the current driver ^^

Using the packages from
http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/docs/ seems to update KDE better than the official repository. Hope that helps. |
