Try the command "startx" and let us know what kind of output does it give to you

BusyBox v1.15.3 (Ubuntu1:1.15.3-1ubuntu5) built - in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built in commands (initramfs) startx /bin/sh: startx not found |
It's a busybox shell. Getting dropped at that usually indicates a severe problem, such as a missing root file system. I am not familiar with lubuntu, is there a grub option for recovery mode, that may be worth a try?
Or you could try passing the the target root file system to the kernel line by hitting 'e' and editing the root argument to e.g. root=/dev/sda1 or wherever your root partition is. |
How old is your laptop? Which version of Lubuntu?
If I recall correctly, 10.10 dropped some support for older hardware, including some older architectures. I recommend the 10.04 LTS release. There are several Linux distro's designed for older hardware. I like Puppy Linux. I wish I could give you some answers to fix this problem without a reinstall or a different distro, but the latest version of Ubuntu (10.10) simply doesn't work with lots of older hardware. One of the many reasons I now use Debian. |
Try posting over at http://ubuntuforums.org
Everyone there is very helpful and knowledgeable about Ubuntu/Lubuntu/etc. This forum is for discussing Debian. :) |
I HAVE A TOSHIBA SATELITE M70 CL1.
nO MORE BLANK DISKS OR I WOULD GO PUPPY! WHEN I START LUBUNTU IT SAID DEBIAN SO ITS HERE UNDER DEBIAN SORRY |
This thread should be moved to the Ubuntu forums. Lubuntu is based on Ubuntu. Otherwise, if you want to install Debian, download the netinst CD image here:
http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/...86-netinst.iso Do not select "graphical desktop environment" during install because that will download and install Gnome. After installing, run "apt-get install lxde" and you will have the same desktop environment used in Lubuntu. You could also try "apt-get install xfce" which should also run well on an older laptop. |
Does the Live CD work OK in Live mode (without installing)?
