[SOLVED] lp doesn't print file to pdf directory after installing cups-pdf using synaptic

After installing cups-pdf using synaptic, lp does not print a file to my pdf directory (which is my default printer), though I'm able to print a test page pdf to this directory using the system-tools/ system-settings/printer/print-test-page application. I'm using jessie.

when I enter:
#lp file

it responds with:
request id is PDF-12 (1 file(s))

but when I look in the PDF directory, the are no files there?

Any help would be appreciated.

Resolved problem. Apparently, when you use lp from the root terminal, it creates a PDF directory in the root directory, not your home directory. When I use lp in non-root-terminal mode, the PDF directory is in my home directory, as all the documentation that I've read states it will be.
