looking for i915 parameter document or Is i915 good for N10?

Hya,

Problem
X screen is screwed up. Probably off sync

System
Debian testing. on Intel atom
Problem started when kernel was upgraded to 2.6.38.
NOT dual monitor!!

So far
On VGA screen, supposed to be 1280x1024, only 1280x800 is active. (This is the best guess, I am not positive.) About 20% at the bottom stays blank.

When X is started (xfce4). According to xfce4 display setup menu, two screens are active, one is correct HP 17", the other laptop (LVDS).

Without i915 module loaded on boot, it starts with something like full screen 320x240 mode, and once i915 is loaded, the symptom above happens.

Kernel document (intelfb) reads that default is 1280x800, but no document for i915.

Current guess
If only default could set to 1280x1024, things go well.

Open Question
Where can I find options for i915?
Is i915 appropriate for my system? (lshw says N10 family)

regards

My laptop has an i915. One of my favourite blogs covered this extensively ( http://www.insidesocal.com/click/lin...ing-in-ubuntu/) but reports that the fix doesn't work with Debian Squeeze.

I had to go a bit round about to get it to work. Boot with an Aptosid disk. There is something about the kernel they use and it should work. I think that the kernel is based on Liquorix (???). When it is installed, put in Liquorix proper. I upgraded to Squeeze and added bits with the script smxi. I then removed all reference to Aptosid,

I tried another way, via Crunchbang 10. I had to search for and add Liquorix through CLI, and it worked

Hya,

Thanks for your reply.

I have not followed your path yet. But if it works with you, it should be something like kernel config or parameters, I guess.

I tried 2.6.39 kernel from experimental repo, which did not work either.

cheers

Update

With current 2.6.39 kernel from wheezy repo, still resolution is off, even with parameters for intelfb.

Every once in a short while, xorg segfaults.

regretfully.

...and have you tried the Liquorix kernel?...

First upgrade to 2.6.39-2 (2.6.39-3) in sid and see if that solves anything.

Hya,

Thanks for replies.

Liqorix: I have some sort of trouble installing. I tried to patch and build manually... ran into kernel panic.

Sid kernel (2.6.39-3): No improvement.

cheers
