log files


what is a list of log files stored on debian and how do i view them?

you will get these files under /var/log

i know where they are i just dont know how to access them or know their file names from the command..how do i do this?

for better understand i am giving you an example
to see my apache access log i use
Code:
cat /var/log/apache/access.log
to see what files are available just press tab for two time
example

cat /var/log/apache/ after writing this just press tab for 2 time it will show you the complete list of file.

You can look at the log files using the cat command or any text editor. All logged messages go into messages, and then some get coppied to other logs depending on how things are configured. There are several handy apps that will watch your log files and automatically email you with things that look suspicious. I know logcheck and logwatch are two of them.
