locale not set, unstable distro?

Hi

I have 2 questions:

1. I installed 3.0r2, then added sources for testing and unstable to my /etc/apt/sources.list and did apt-get dist-upgrade. Everything is running, but when I apt-get new applications, sometimes they come from testing and sometimes from unstable. Is this normal?

2. Whenever I run apt-get or certain other applications, I get a flurry of warnings like this:

perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:
LANGUAGE = (unset),
LC_ALL = (unset),
LC_CTYPE = "en_US.UTF-8",
LANG = (unset)
are supported and installed on your system.
perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C").

locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: No such
file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such f
ile or directory

How do I fix this? I tried dpkg-reconfigure locale, but that didn't do anything.

Thanks for any tips!
