list installed debian packages
Hi all,

Could anyone please tell me how to list all the packages I have installed in my Debian system?

Thank you,

You can use dselect (type 'dselect' and press Enter), KPackage (K menu->System->KPackage) or Synaptic (K Menu->System->Synaptic Package Manager). I'd say Synaptic is the most used tool for this kind of stuff and it's easy to use once you get used to it.

or aptitude, it lists installed packages, upgradable packages, obsolete packages and not installed packages, just run aptitude from the console.

dpkg --get-selections

Packages installed
Hi all,

I am getting better now with Debian and the best way I found to chek the packages installed is:

dpkg -l

Which will give me a list of all the packages installed.

In case someone is looking for a specific package then use:

dpkg -l | grep package_name_we_are_looking_for
