Lilo config and new Kernel?

heya guys, i decidded to try my hand at compiling a new kernel on my sarge system that was running a bf24 kernel.

i downloadded the 2.6.3 source, did a make menuconfig (make xconfig required qt, and even after aptgetting the proper files it still gave a ton of errors) its all straight foward, i have compiled kernels before on my redhat/Grub boot system before, hard to mess them up unless you disable too many options (they come seemingly with a almost perfectly working default setup, atleast on my system) but when it finishes and i install it, it asks multiple questions about changing the lilo config. heres where i guess i compleatly botch it up.

i have my boot partition on the 3rd partition, and it defaults to the first to install the files. and i think i generally just mess it up where it kernel panik when it loads up. (after a good deal of normal loading text goes by)

i origonally installed lilo to the mbr and not just the boot partition (not shure if that matteres, thats just the option i picked)

anyone have any ideas on how to easily get by that last part about changing lilo settings without me screwing it up?

thanks guys :)

Post your lilo.conf and the output of `fdisk -l /dev/hda`

Hi Zaskar, I'm not too experienced Linux user but I have same problem as you and guess that this bug isn't in LILO but rather in kernel... just check this thread to see if you have same problem or not.

BTW if I may ask do you have motherboard with VIA chipset?
