Hi, Penguins.
I am confused. I have etch penguin running.
Story is:
A program needs libtiff.so.3, my penguin has libtiff.so.4.
So that I looked for Debian site for libtiff.so.3 and found libtiff3g package at old stable. Then I downloaded source code and compiled (tiff-v3.5.5). -> libtiff.a popped out
Not knowing what to do next, I downloaded current source code from
www.libtiff.org, (tiff_3.8.2)->
compiled-> libtiff.so.3 popped out -> installed-> and things look good. (tiff_3.8.2) is the same package as etch. (why not libtiff.so.4 ????)
I do not have much experience at conventional and elf libraries, (and numbers after .so)
What defines library type and numbers?
Happy Penguins!!
