libpango? Upgrade issues

What the heck is libpango and why do packages like GAim 1.5 and Firefox need it?

The darn thing lists a grave bug and you can't upgrade Gaim or Firefox to the latest in sid without it.

Is there anyway to not upgrade it but still upgrade Gaim?

Pango is a library for layout and rendering of text.
You can't upgrade Gaim without the necessary version of libpango.

Well, you could of course force install it but then you'd break apt.
