Learning Debian for LPIC-Certification

Hi all,

I'm going for LPIC 1 certification. The exam is based on Debian but I'm using Debian for a short time (few days).

Can anyone guide me to a short manual about Debian? I need knowledge about system-configuration, package-management (dpkg, aptitude and apt-get).

I found this this Reference Card. Do you think it's enough I'll have to know besides reading the manpages?

Thanks in advance

Markus

Hi,

I don't know much about the LPIC certification requirements, but if you need documentation about apt-get/aptitude/dpkg and general system configuration, you can have a look at the Debian Reference. Particularly, section 2 is about package management. The rest of the document has information on system configuration. You can also have a look at the apt howto; it's obsolete, but I think a lot of what it's explained there still applies to apt-get.

You can find more documentation here.

Cheers.

Your sure that its only Debian? As far as I recall it only talks about rpm so SuSe or Centos should be checked as well.

As yet we're only working with Debian. Later in the course we will also learn RPM. My problem is that several default settings on Debian differ from those in Slackware, also I don't know Debians package-management. That's my problem for now.

Thanks for the link, we've got the book as a hardcopy, nice to have it as PDF

Ah okay. As such odiseo77 has pointed you to the right directions.

I guess the most stunning difference between slack and debian is the /etc/default directory. This holds some primary config snipests. And also the name of the packages change within /etc. As of slackware it is http, iirc, and for debian its apache2. But those should be easy to spot.

Good luck with your exams.
