Knoppix-installer problem

Hi guys, i decided to give Knoppix a blast, so i went to do a hard drive install, at the boot prompt i enterd "knoppix 2" then when i got to the root prompt i enterd "knoppix-installer" and went through the first page about telling me what this program will do, BUT There are only two options, "Partition Hard Drive" and "Quit", i have tried partitioning the hard drive and i still get the same, have tried to do this about five times now with no luck :( Not looking very good!

Do not install knoppix to hd!
Knoppix is wonderful, but it's not ment to go to hd. If you do, it works
only as long as you don't install additional software. As soon as you
use apt-get install, the system can get screwed up (it won't boot
any longer, and fixing it then requires several hours of hard work by
an expert). Use morphix instead.

Now for you question: did you tell cfdisk to actually write the
changes you made?

I've had no problems installing Knoppix to the hard drive. I just followed all the different documentation on www.knoppix.net

I've had no problems installing Knoppix
Me too (i'm writing this on a knoppix 3.2). The trouble i was talking
about might begin once you update essential packages like libc
or sysvinit. It needs just one apt-get install and it won't boot
anymore (had this with every knoppix install i've done so far).
Sure, one can repair it, but that takes hours. To a newbe, such
a box seems totally messed up. Mr. Knopper himself states:
Quote:

Auf neueren Versionen von KNOPPIX ab 3.1 ist unter
/usr/local/bin/knx-hdinstall
ein Skript mit dabei, das aus KNOPPIX eine "normale" Debian-Installation
auf Festplatte erzeugt. Benutzung auf eigene Gefahr!
Thus, better not tell a newbe to install Knoppix on hd.

Morphix otoh is based on Knoppix, but comes with a nice big "install"-
Button (and their penguin is so cute).

i ran into that install problem myself today.

i ended up running knx-hdinstall instead of knoppix-installer and now i got knoppix running on my laptop.

funny someone mentioned telling cfdisk to write to changes as i've always do that before exiting that program. i was still only getting 2 options in knoppix-installer.

i'm not going to be changing this installation of knoppix at all.

i'm using it to build linux from scratch 5.0

sorry that everything is lowercase but my laptop keyboard is not working right. lol

I use debian (from knoppix). You need to create ext3 and swap partition, then you can start the knoppix-installer.
Knoppix installation is the best I have ever used!
