Knoppix HD Install LILO Troubles With SATA Drive - HELP

Hello everyone,

I am having a very tough time with the install of Knoppix onto my Western Digital Serial ATA 37 gig raptor drive. I am using my onboard promise raid controller for the SATA drive. I created 1 3.5 gig partition on the drive (using knoppix booted from cd). It seems to install all of the files to the gig fine, but then when I go to boot the drive it does not boot.

I think LILO isn't getting properly installed. I tried to boot again using the knoppix cd to mount the drive and chroot to the partition to run lilo (to get it to install to the mbr) but it says that it can't open my /dev/sda1 (which IS the partition I want) because it doesn't have permissions. It says that the file system is write-protected which makes no sense.

I even tried a complete low level format of the drive and did the hwole thing over again with the same results. I have tried doing this about 5 times now. Is there something I am missing???

I love the knoppix live cd and I really want to get this installed. If anyone could help it would GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Update - GRUB loads but kernerl panic!

Update -

For some reason when I tried to install Knoppix again it apparently installed GRUB to the mbr. I thought this could possibly be a step in the right direction. Now I don't have much experience with GRUB but I typed in the following commands.

kernel = /boot/vmlinuz

It loaded the kernel ok but when I went to boot, the kernel panicked and said it couldn't open the root partition.

Any ideas??

Thanks again!
