kernel patches

Hi, I downloaded kernel-source-2.4.18 today and got a patch with it 2.4.18-13.diff.gz and I checked the debian website but it has 2.4.18-14.1 as the patch. I downloaded the 2.4.18-14.1 patch from a debian mirror and was just wondering should I use the latest patch or the one that came with the source when I first download it. I know this might be a trivial question but its my first debian kernel compile so I just want to make sure I get everything covered and right before going ahead (as in compiling it with the 2.4.18-13.diff.gz patch and then finding I have to install the latest and compile again). Thanks

Why aren't you using 2.4.24?
