Kernel Panic using Bootx on an Oldworld Mac

Hi all. Thanks for looking.
I've sucessfully installed Wheezy on my 9600 PPC, but the kernel won't boot. I copied the init and vmlinuz file from the net-install cd (install folder) to the Linux Kernel folder in Mac OS. I set up two partitions during the install, one for / and one for swap, sda has Mac on it and sdb has Linux. I've been hunting with Google and came across a post suggesting booting from the init file, starting the installation, changing into a console and mounting both drives so I can copy the installed kernel over to the Mac drive to use that to boot, but I get and error saying the drives don't exist. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Update....
I started the installer and went through the steps until it was time to partition the disks (after the installer mounted the drives). At that point I could mount the Linux partition, but not the Mac partition (Device does not exist).

Good Lord in Heaven, I thought a Gentoo install was difficult.....
