kernel 2.6.x SMP
 

I am probably missing something here, nevertheless I post this thread and hope some ppl have experienced simular problems.

I've been working on the Debian sarge distribution, and I was trying to compile a kernel with sources from the kernel-source-2.6.x, tried the 2.6 ones from apt kernel-source. I fail to find a way to enable SMP support, whereas the 2.4 kernel have this option and it runs smoothly with 2 cpu's. At first I thought that the smp was missing because it was just there and not an option to choose it anymore, but after a closer look in /proc/cpuinfo I saw I was only running on 1 cpu. Do I need to suply a patch to the kernel-source for smp to work at all.... what am I doing wrong

while compiling the kernel in the general section there is a option of

"enable symmetric multiproceesing"

that will help u

Hmm, now I found it where it was supposed to be (processor types and features) I could have sworn it was'nt there when I made this post. Well thx for input

good that u found out
yes it can happen that it was not there earlier since sometimes it depends on some options which u wouldn't have chosen,
like when u do not choose scsi support u sometiumes do not get scsi emulation support(,it is under different menu and this is reqiured for cd writers)

just in case someone is searching for this option like me....

I found out that you have to disable 486 emulation or whatever this option is named. After this the new option will show up (in menuconfig).
It took some time to figure this out.
