I installed debian sarge and When I went into the packages list, It listed a 2.6 kernel and my 2.4 kernel. Is the 2.6 a development kernel? Is it stable or unstable? If it is unstable, is it good enough to use for everyday purposes or just development?
In general 2.<even number>=stable 2.<odd number>=devel. You can check kernel.org for the latest "stable". Which at the time of this posting is 2.6.15.4
2.6 is a stable kernel. The latest version has better features and better hardware support than earlier versions, so I suggest that you use 2.6. 2.4 is Ok, but for the latest hardware support, I suggest 2.6.
