kernel 2.6

I want to install kernel 2.6, but i've heard rumors that modconf in Debian doesn't work to well with the new kernel yet. Will I experience any trouble? Anyone out there running kernel 2.6 on Debian?

I've just about finished compiling a 2.6.3 kernel. I had some trouble with depmod. Don't really understand it all very well (yet ). But I have been able to solve the problem. If even a beginner can solve it...

I've installed module-init-tools. I think that solved the problem for me.

btw I use debian sarge

You need the new module-init-tools package to take care of that if you are running Woody then you would need to go to http://www.apt-get.org or http://www.backports.org and get a backport of the package with testing/unstable you can get the package without problems through apt-get install. You also need a line like this in your /etc/fstab for the new sysfs that is used and you need to mkdir /sys as root to make the required mount point for it.

Code:
## Needed for kernel 2.6
none /sys sysfs defaults 0 0
