Keeping an old version (etch) of package in Lenny

Due to some bugs in watchdog package in Lenny I would like to retain old version of the package from Etch. How can I achieve that?

Also, if I do apt-get upgrade on Lenny it should not download the latest version.

Code:
echo packagename hold | dpkg --set-selections
or switch to aptitude exclusively and use
Code:
aptitude hold package
