kde startup no sound, after alsaconf fine, but then no midi

Alright, so I decided to upgrade to Debian Unstable, for I heard that the current Tesing version isn't very good. However, since I have done that, I've had a problem with Alsa. Every time I restart the conputer then start KDE the sound won't work and thus is set to null. In order to correct this, I run alsaconf. However, before I do this I can look at KControl and see that my MIDI to USB cable is plugged in and ready to use. However, after I run Alsaconf and restard KDE in order to allow the Mixer that can put onto the bottom panel to work correctly, I look at KControl's sound settings again, and to my dismay find my MIDI device gone. Can someone help me to fix both the problem of having to restart Alsa everytime and my MIDI setup dissappearing afterwards? Thanks.

After running alsaconf you'd need to set the correct levels with some mixer program like aumix, alsamixer or kmixer. I like kmixer because it uses labels that make sense to an audio noob like me.
Make sure that you've got alsa-utils installed and run '/etc/init.d/alsa-utils restart' and that script will run the program alsactl to store your mixer settings so that it lasts after the next reboot.

The missing midi device are probably because the right midi-modules aren't loaded automatically, check 'lsmod' to see the name of the usb-midi module and add that to the file "/etc/modules".

I hope that helps.
