KDE Problem

Hi, i've got quite a peculiar problem with KDE...

am running kernel 2.6.8, KDE 3.2

when i startx into KDE from root account, everything's fine. i get a nice KDE background, icons are there and the desktop icons are properly aligned.

but when i startx into KDE from my other user account,
i get the same background as the one i see in GNOME,
the desktop icons are not properly aligned,
and at the bottom panel are eight similar gear icons (you know, the gear icon that commonly represents settings. (presumaby these icons are there in place of some other icons that are supposed to be there)
when i click on one of the gear icons, it gives me an error dialog:
The desktop entry
file /usr/share/applnk/Office/kword.desktop
has no Type=... entry.
clicking on the other "gear icons" gives me similar error dialog boxes.

like i said, the peculiarities that i encounter as normal user doesn't surface when i startx as a root.

Any idea what's wrong?

Thanks and Regards,

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.

Since you have now posted the same question twice in Linux-Newbie, we can assume that this thread is now abandoned.
