KDE applet for apt-get update/upgrade
Hi,
I am looking for a KDE tool that indicates if there are package updates available for my system. SuSE uses a kde applet called "susewatcher" which I find quite helpful. Is there something similar for Debian and apt-get? It should run "apt-get update" and "apt-get upgrade" at certain intervals and indicate that there are new updates. I know I can automate the process using a shell script and cron, but I don't want to get some annoying popups or emails. A tiny kde applet that just changes its color would be ideal. |
No such applet that I am aware of, however be aware that such an applet would be rather server-unfriendly as it would have to hit the servers pretty often to download the lists.
Surely once a day would do the trick. |
There is a package called cron-apt, but it will use the mail system to notify you. One email a day shouldn't be a problem, should it?

Surprise, Surprise!
This morning, in Synaptic's "New in Repository" I found: Update-notifier. Quote:
