KDE and resolution

OK, after many months of toil, I have finally been able to update the BIOS on my Dell GX270 and get KDE installed. I am only getting 800x600 though. Is there any way way to get a higher resolution, I was at least hoping to get 1280x1024.

Add to your /etc/X11/XF86Config in the "Screen section" the mode "1280x1024" or whatever you need.

    Subsection "Display"
        Depth 24
        Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
        ViewPort 0 0

or with KDE:

In "Control Center / Peripherals / Display" you should be able to adjust the screen resolution.

Note that if /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 exists, edit THIS file and ignore XF86Config. Your X server will ignore XF86Config in favor of XF86Config-4 also!

Personally, I think 1280x1024 is an abomination--I prefer 1280x960 instead because it conforms to the same 4:3 ratio that all other standard resolutions conform to (this results in square pixels).
