kde 3.4 in Debian

Hi,

I am running debian unstable and I was thinking to upgrade to kde 3.4 throught the Alioth repository but I am wondering how safe it is, in particular: once kde 3.4 will be in the official repositories could I have a problem?

The reason for what I am considering this is there:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-kde/2.../msg00057.html
basically it says that it should be safe to upgrade because the upload is only delayed by the C++ ABI transition.
All right but kde is in C++, could this transition have a negative side effect if I am already running kde 3.4 or are they unrelated ?
In brief I am wondering if the debian developers chose to go through this transition first because it is necessary or for some other reason.

Does anyone have an advise on that? thanks in advance for your help

A.

i upgraded to kde 3.4.1 two days ago from
deb http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/kde-3.4.1/ ./

and it works great until now

when you add the repository just type :
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade

but when i did that it upgraded every kde package except 2 packages that required a certain program (i think it was called dbus-qt-1_0.23.4-3_i386.deb)

so i just downloaded and installed that package from
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux...ol/main/d/dbus/

and dist-upgraded again then it upgraded the last 2 packages

thanks for your answer, yup looks like it is working for many people but I'm still worry about this C++ ABI transition... it's a *massive* one. they have to recompile all the c++ packages with a new compiler from what I understand... and this is why I was wondering if it could have any negative side effects once kde enters the official repositories... any ideas?
thanks,
A.
