kde 3.4 from alioth?

His!
Does someone here use the alioth kde 3.4 version? Is it good/safe/reliable? Can I upgrade from here http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/docs/? Are there any issues I shall be aware of?
What benefits are there, compared to 3.2?

thanks!

I have Alioth 3.4.1 on a Sarge test PC and it works fine.

However, 3.4.1 will soon be introduced into unstable but compiled against gcc4, thus incompatible with the Alioth repo.

If not already, there will no doubt be a proper Sarge backport.

Do you see any relevant new functionality in 3.4.1? According to kde's policy, the second number (4) is updated when there's new functionality added...

I'm interested in a new version of kradio which requires kde 3.4.1. If upgrading is not a problem, I would try. But I feel like I'd better of waiting a bit more...

Thanks!

3.4.1 looks great, is snappier, and has obvious bug fixes over 3.4.0. I haven't done much work on it, being a test PC, but most notable was media handling. With udev and hal installed, I can insert a CD or plug-in a media card and it would be automount with an icon added to the desktop -- nice. There's a "system" icon on the desktop that allows users, through Konqi, to discover many useful kioslaves. Control center is cleaned up a bit, too. No break-through apps but mostly refinements to the existing ones.

It's not a revolutionary change from 3.3 but more a leap of polish and integration. I really like it but won't risk mucking up my workstation. I'll wait until it appears in etch.
