k3b

Hi,

When I start up k3b on Debian Sarge (ia64) I get an erro dialogue telling me that cdrdao is missing. However, Synaptic seems to think that k3b is up to date. How comes?
By the way, is cdrdao needed for burning DVDs, or is it only used for burning CDs?
Thaks in advance.

I think the reason is the default k3b config is set to use dao (disk-at_once) writing which is what cdrdao. Other option is sao and tao which is default in cdrecord. I could be wrong.

cdrdao is a separate program that needs to be installed. Go into package manager and install it, or just run k3b setup.

Yes, the cdrdao package is missing, Worse, it doesn't seem to be available for amd64. At least I cannot find it at the debian site. Maybe a contributed package is available somewhere?

You can get it from Testing. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to consider upgrading your system to Testing.

I just found out that there is a bug related to writing cd-r disks in the AMD64 distro. Not sure if it's K3B or cd-record, but MP3 have lots of imperfections. 32 Bit system is fine. It may only relate to some kernels, but after you write one, check it out carefully.
