Is there an automatic cdrom loader in Debian?
Is there an automatic cdrom loader in Debian? When Windows users put a cd in the cdrom drive it automatically starts up. If it's a music disk, it starts playing. Is there something similar in Debian? XVmount is a little crude.

The automount package does something like that. Not sure if it does it for the optical drives but it is worth a shot. Works well on USB devices.

Most of the cd player apps have a setting to autoplay audio cds. Find one you like and play around with the settings.

Where do I find it?
|
gnome-cdplayer click on the tool icon
kscd click on extras and configure Most players that will play cds have a play cd automatically when inserted feature. Looking around in whatever app you use in the settings or preferences. |
"Kay" does just that
but it works only in kde 3.4 http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=25647 |

I would recommend installing the following:
2.6.8+ kernel udev hal gnome-volume-manager The gvm is what does the trick. It can mount / autoplay / import photos automatically. I have not yet used it for long periods of time, but it seems to work reliably (no non-intentional lock-ups yet). Of all the automounters I've tried (gvm, supermount, autofs) it seems to be the cleanest solution. It won't probably require Gnome for proper functioning, but will want to have it installed, however. |
