Is it possible to install Oracle 10g (10.2) on Debian Etch?

I have installed oracle in the past on my laptop for work running debian and it was working fine until an oracle upgrade patch corrupted the client installation and OLAP installation. When I try to reinstall oracle, I can no longer do so because of of glibc.

Oracle requires glibc-2.3.2-95.3 or higher, but Debian etch, sid and lenny all ship using glibc as a virtual package that provides libc6 2.3.6.ds1-13. If I try to ignore the oracle installer warnings, I get the following exception:
Quote:

java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /home/oracle/tmp/OraInstall2007-04-09_07-03-48PM/oui/lib/linux/liboraInstaller.so: /home/oracle/tmp/OraInstall2007-04-09_07-03-48PM/oui/lib/linux/liboraInstaller.so: symbol errno, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference
I have googled around and have found no answers. All the how-to type documents do not mention any problems with glibc (as this is a more recent issue, as older versions of etch & sid used to work).

I have this in my /etc/redhat-release:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 3 (Taroon)

I have also tried:
Red Hat Linux release 3.0 (drupal)

Neither makes a difference.

Anyone know of any workarounds/fixes?

If you notice the libc6 that you have is greater than the Oracle requirement. Most of the googling I did pointed (strangely enough) to this actually being a java error.
