I cant seem to install the ipw3945 drivers for my wireless laptop chipset, on Arch i just ran "pacman -S ipw3945" and that solved it, i have installed various packages through apt but with no luck, could anyone enlighten me?
There are some legal problems with ipw3945 and debian.
I haven't followed the complete discussion but I suggest that you first go there: http://lists.debian.org/search.html
and then
you can always look in LQ in the forum Wireless Networking
I think using an ubuntu livecd and chrooting to it is the easiest and cleanest thing. Ubuntu doesn't put these legal restrictions.
I found the problem, i installed the 486 modules for my 486 kernel...
But in a recent update for some reason a 686 kernel had been installed so the modules weren't loading, i just deleted the relevent kernels and worked fine
