ip_foward issue

I am using my debian server as a router, however the problem is that whenever the server is rebooted i have to reenable ip_foward. I tried putting the echo command in a startup script but it didnt set it. can anyone tell me a way to make ip_foward set to 1 on bootup?

Hi, I'm pretty bad at english, so let me see if I understood well:
Did you add these lines:
Code:
net.ipv4.ip_forward=1
net.ipv6.ip_forward=1
in /etc/sysctl.conf and that didn't help either?

Why would a script not work? How does it tries to set it up? You were using some line like
Code:
echo “1” >/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
?

i as typing the line as <code>echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward</code> and it wasnt working, although I did manage to make it work in sysctl.conf becasue i realized that i misspelled forward as foward and the path is supposed to be net/ipv4/ip_forward instead of the full proc path so the issue is resolved. I appreciate your response.
