Intel536ep Modem Install

I have a working debian system, with kernel version 2.4.18.

I have downloaded and extracted the Intel536 driver module source code.

Upon running 'make 536' as per the instructions in the read me, I get the following error:

Module precompile check
Current running kernel is: 2.4.18-bf2.4
/lib/modules... autoconf.h does not exist
please install kernel source
make: *** [check] Error 1

I have the kernel source for the correct kernel in /usr/src.

If someone could point out something that might be causing the problem it would be much apprieciated.

Regards

Mike

Do you have the kernel-headers installed? If not, that should solve your problem, or if you have compiled your kernel form the source you have make sure /lib/modules/<kernel version>/build is a link to your source or the kernel-headers.

Thanks, well it seems I got a little further.

I linked /lib/modules/<kernel version>/build to the source. I ran make again and it starts to compile. However the compile stops with an error:

In file included from coredrv.c:37:
/lib/modules/2.4.18-bf2.4/build/include/linux/module.h:21:34: error: linux/modversions.h: No such file or directory
make[1]: *** [coredrv.o] Error 1

Checking the directory out I cant find the modversions.h file there. Im a bit stuck as to how to progress beyond this apparant missing file.

Have you compiled a kernel with this source or just uncompressed it? The modversion.h is made during compile time so I guess you have not compiled the kernel. Copy the config file from /boot to .config in the source directory then run 'make' and it will go for a few hours then you can compile the modem module, no need to install the kernel unless you want to.

Or if you are using a Debian made kernel, then installing the kernel-headers for it will be a lot faster. Just make sure the link in /lib/modules/<version> points to it and not the source.
