From what I can gather that card uses the Symbol Chipset and requires proprietary firmware..
Symbol was bought out by Motorola and I can't find anything on Motorolas website about the proprietary firmware that is needed.

Of course, there are exceptions : the Symbol/Socket CF cards (Compact Flash) and the Intel 2011B card don't have a built in firmware and require a specific version of the driver (called CF).

Most of the links I'm finding for that card are OLD (2001-2004).. the drivers are old (if you can locate a link to download them), I don't even know if they would compile or work with the 2.6 kernel..
Might I suggest a shiny new 802.11G card with the ralink chipset ? takes all of about 2 minutes to setup in Debian, with a free driver and no firmware needed ?
Asus WL-107g for $26.00
Another alternative would be to use the Windows driver for the card you have and ndiswrapper in Linux
I see in my searching, some of the Other Averatec 3225 laptops came with the ralink wireless cards..
