Installing KDE 3.2 on Woody Debian

Hi.. I tried to install KDE 3.2, and I get the following errors:

debconf: unable to initialize frontend: Kde
debconf: (Can't locate Qt.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.3 /usr/local/share/perl/5.8.3 /usr/lib/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.8 /usr/share/perl/5.8 /usr/local/lib/site_perl .) at /usr/share/perl5/Debconf/FrontEnd/Kde/Wizard.pm line 7, <> line 1.)
debconf: falling back to frontend: Dialog

Any suggestions? New to linux, especially Debian, so please be specific ;)

Thanks in advance!

just update your sources.list to SID!

mattthomas 03-27-2004 01:40 PM

I got the sources.list part, But I don't know what you mean by update my list to SID... can you elaborate?

I was looking for a "HOWTO" for KDE 3.2.1 + Debian Testing.

However, I can answer your SID-question.

All versions of Debian are named after characters that appeared in the great movie "Toy Story"
Sid is one of them. However, it can be seen as an acronym as well, where it stands for "Still In Development". Thus the unstable line will always be called "Sid". The current stabel version is "Woody" and the upcoming version (currently Testing) will be called "Sarge".

Now I'd be gratefull if anyone could post a HOWTO for the KDE 3.2.1 problem ;-)

Maybe another day...

Had projects that needed to be completed, went back to Windows for now. Mainly becase I want to reinstall linux anyway, and probably not debian.... anything named after a movie as gay as toy story has got to suck

gromer 03-30-2004 08:57 AM

Well, that is sad.
Debian IS a good distro. You'll love apt-get when you are used to it.
And why do you think Toy story is gay (and even if so, what's the problem with that?) ???

Maybe you can't read

I don't have Debian installed anymore. apt-get is alright, the problem is the piss slow connections with the servers hosting the stuff... I have a 3Mbit connection, and getting d/l speeds between 3-5k/sec.... and that's with multiple sources specified... If anything I'm going with gentoo

augamecock 03-30-2004 02:46 PM

hehe.. and you think debian is slow.. you're in for a treat.

mirrors.kernel.org is a fast debian mirror. If you had changed "stable" to "unstable" in your sources.list file and then did

apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade

you could've used KDE3.2 with no problem. Now you know for when you get sick of the compile time with Gentoo

The German mirrors always max out my DSL connection (150k/s) so if you ever reinstall give them a try.

What is qt.pm

What is qt.pm ...? And what went wrong. I had similar lines to the ones suuggested in my sources list, and after downloading for 2 days, I tried to start kde, and no luck
