Installing from USB CDROM

I'm trying to install Woody from a CDROM connected via USB. Of course it'll boot and start the installation process but when it gets to the point where it wants a source from which to install the base system, it will only give the option of using floppies, or an existing hard drive partition - ie it cannot see the CDROM.

This is on a HP NC4000 laptop where the only option for connecting the CDROM is via USB. Is there any way round this, or a boot option I should be including right at the start?

I have successfully installed/configured/upgraded Debian on various other systems but on this one I'm stumped right at the beginning

--------------------------------

Right, I had far more success by using the Debian-Installer from the testing distribution, which seems to be able to install the base system from the CD. I'd still like to know if there is a way round the first problem though...

if you have high speed internet, a floppy drive, and access to a computer with internet access...

download and use debian net installer floppies
install debian
upgrade to kernel 2.6

i did that on a laptop without a cdrom drive and it worked perfectly fine... just an alternate method.
